8 seasons - change is inevitable
"There are seasons in life. Don't let anyone try to deny you the joy of one season because they believe you should stay in another season. Trust your instincts. Keep your perspective."
In a blink of an eye, I went from sweating as a volunteer on the Rogue team, battling the California heat in the 2011 CrossFit Games, to patiently checking in as a seasoned CrossFit Games competitor in the new Rogue Fitness Sanctioned Event in 2019.
8 seasons have passed me by. The density on my body got thicker, my work capacity improved, nagging pains in hip shoulder and wrist are now constantly present and a decline in my interest in spending all day in the gym is now defined.
8 seasons of new friendships, personal records, missed lifts, and painful workouts have helped me enjoy a successful career in the sport of fitness.
8 seasons learning muscle ups, snatches, legless rope climbs, peg boards, all while attempting to get stronger in the squat, deadlift, and press. Frustration, tears, doubt, pain, blood, sweat, accumulate as does experience, awareness, patience, and love of the process.
8 seasons have come and gone as I blink one last time as an individual competitor.
The next 8 seasons I will spend golfing, maybe helping a team. I will grow my wine company to 100,000 case production and I will be known for my business, my golf game as well as my strength and endurance.
I thank this sport, for making me tougher and always reminding me nothing is guaranteed. 8 seasons I sacrificed my time and my body for the love of the sport and it is now time to switch the focus.
Thank You all who have supported me, believed in me and cheered me on the last 8 seasons. You will forever be in my heart and as I compete in my final individual competition, my heart is happy because I gave it my all.
